Ilisys: A Carbon Neutral ISP

Monday, January 8th, 2007

Ilisys: A Carbon Neutral ISPIIisis is an Internet Service Provider based in Western Australia, to which use 200,000 kWh of electricity to provide service to its 18,000 Australian business customers. They buy 100% of their power from Sydney Energy’s Natural Power program, making them the first Aussie ISP to become carbon neutral.

IIisis doesn’t stop just there. They go as far as to calculate the amount of CO2 emissions their staff consumes driving to and from work, and flying to business meetings, equaling 30 tonnes. They offset these emissions with the help of the Men of the Trees conservation group. This group figures that over a 30 year time frame, a tree planted in Australia will absorb 230 kg of CO2. This is aside from the fact that Australia could use as many trees as it can get in its Western Hemisphere due to a severe soil salinity problem, so fantastic for IIisis for making an effort for both.
